Activities in Meribel

If you don’t fancy a day up the mountain, Meribel has many other activities to keep you occupied. On the other hand, if you have already had an amazing day up the mountain, and still have more energy to burn, these can be a great alternative to apres ski.

Bowling
Meribel offers an ultra modern, 6 lane, 10 pin bowling alley in the Olympic centre. This opens at 2pm, or 11am on bad weather days, and stays open until 2am! This is a fantastic place to hone your skills and relax after a day on the mountain. They also have weekly neon nights for a bit of fancy dress fun!

Dog sledding
If you love animals, or dogs in particular, husky sledding is a unique activity to do while you are on holiday in Meribel. As you may have seen on the BBC’s Top Gear, husky sledding can be a fantastic way travel around the mountains, and is also unlike anything you will have ever experienced before. Don’t forget to bring your gloves!

Fitness centre
As we all know, keeping fit and healthy can only be a good thing. While skiing is a great, fun sport, to really excel, doing some work in the gym can help improve your strength, enabling you to stay up the hill that little bit longer. Situated in the Olympic Centre, Meribel’s fitness centre can helkp you keep fit and improve your skiing.

Health spa
If skiing all day doesn’t fill you with enthusiasm to head out to the gym, perhaps a spa will be more to you liking. Meribel’s hotel Chaudanne provides a variety of relaxing, sports and hot stone massages, as well as reflexology and beauty treatments.

Ice skating

Next to the Chaudanne, there is an ice rink, for you to perfect your pirouettes, as well as an indoor climbing wall, which is free to use from 9am until 6pm for experienced climbers. Rock climbing is a fantastic way to keep fit and strengthen your core muscles and improve balance, which is sure to improve your skiing, as well as being great fun in itself!

Paragliding
Paragliding is one of the most breathtaking and exhilarating ways to get down from the top of the mountain in Meribel. With views of the three valleys in their entirety and no experience necessary, tandem paragliding flights are an amazing activity to experience whilst on your holiday in Meribel.

Ski touring
Ski touring is a fantastic way to ski some of the less accessible terrain that Meribel has to offer. It involves taking a lift to a peak, skiing down an untracked side of the mountain with no lift, resorts or other tourists, then hiking into the wilderness with skins on your skis (so that you can ski uphill with them) and hiking to a ridge for another run of fresh powder back towards the town. This genrally take most of the day, and is an excellent way to experience the silence and wilderness of the mountains.

Snow shoeing
Snow shoeing is a slightly more easy going version of ski touring, that also doesn’t require any ability on skis, just a reasonable level of fitness. The ESF (France’s ski school) run snow shoeing hikes from Meribel around the surrounding local area, well away from the pistes and noise.  Your guide can teach you all about the local flora and fauna to make this an educational, as well as enjoyable trip.

Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling, or Ski-dooing as it is sometimes called, is an exhilarating experience, sharing similarities with motor biking or quad biking but on snow.  The front wheel is instead two skis which steer the snowmobile in a similar manner to a motorbike, while the rear wheel is replaced with a caterpillar track to power the machine across powder and piste alike. Whitetracks gives you the opportunity to ride around the pistes of Meribel after they have closed, or if there is some fresh snow, to go and get some powder!
